The boy certainly enjoys his fishing. So much so that we took a quick trip to my parents so that he could partake. First up, Marblehead and its beautiful light house. The weather was just perfect, low 80s and low humidity.
We sprinkled that in with some other activities such as baseball and basketball at the local park. To our surprise, Uncle Larry’s Court got a fresh paint job.
Our cousin invited us down for dinner. Food was delicious but more importantly they brought out the tractors and the relverly began. First daddy couldn’t stop the tractor and then the boy attempted his first time driving, like anything. Both did pretty darn well. The best part for me was watching Zachary drive my grandfather’s M. The M is a 1941 that was used for planting and mowing. A small but mighty girl that has been meticulously redone. She’s a beauty.
Next up was Put in Bay for more fishing. I’ve never been to this island off the coast of Lake Erie. But we loaded up and went. The boys fished while the adults toured around on a 8 seat golf cart. We had a great lunch at the Boardwalk. The perch was so good. Our favorite moment trying to find the Butterfly Shop. Off the beaten path a bit we must have passed it a dozen times before finding, but alas the shop was dark and was in the process of closing. One of the employees saw us peering through the windows and invited us in to shop….midwestern values. Finally, have you ever seen a golf cart pulled over by three police cars? We did and laughed so hard. Those poor women had just passed us screaming and hooting, feeling a little tipsy, when the sirens rang. Busted.
On Friday, the boy went fishing with his daddy while the rest headed to the Norwalk Car Show. They had drag racing and a free period where anyone could take their car down the track. My dad took the 57 down it and hit 88 MPH. That car sure does purr.
It was a fun but super fast week. Definitely miss these moments when we’re gone. I just love the peacefulness of my morning runs, knowing these were the same fields that my grandparents once farmed. It makes me happy.
