Week in Rewind: Oct 15

The seas of change have been brewing for some time. It’s not always easy to accept that it’s in front of you but the good ones realize it and work the change to their advantage. Last year, around this time, Zachary was on the verge of quitting pitching. Frustrated, down on his luck, things looked dim. That’s when the winds of change entered our lives. Beta testing a pitching app for Tom House and his group. And when Tom watched Zachary’s first video with glowing reviews, it only reinforced what we had known, deep down the kid has skill. All last spring, the boy got rare opportunities to pitch for his team. When he did, it wasn’t necessarily good. And yet the boy continued to work behind the scenes. Last weekend, it finally came together. He pitched a gem, complete game shut out on 60 pitches, only giving up 3 hits. But what mom..the look of dominance in his eyes. The boy took a negative situation and made a positive change. And he got to do it in front of a home crowd.

Now we are on the verge of more change with his team. A star player has left leaving a huge void. We talked this morning about it and he is clearly down. But I told him, it’s your turn to be a leader and make the game fun. Something tells me, the boy has it in him.

My boy is also changing physically. It’s always been our thing to do minature golf on
Columbus Day. So off we went, two terrible putters laughing their butts off. One of us lost our ball in that waterfall but as they say, a few mulligans never hurt a golf score. It’s just scary how big he is getting. He washed down that outing with Chick Fila, complete with a huge milkshake.

And finally, one more change. Our boy, Cody Bellinger, has been in the worst slump all season. But at crunch time, he lit a ball up the middle scoring Justin Turner. Poetic justice because sometimes you really have to battle with change to get to the other side. The good ones find ways to do it.
