We got to see a beautiful sunset last night. Hot day temperatures dropped to a cooler night. We had dinner of sloppy Joe’s on the picnic table.
The next morning we headed to Scott Bluff. The morning crew drove to the top and started the easier trail.
Everything was goin well until, feeling our oats, we decided to do the 1.6 mile trail down the bluff. While fun at first, it became increasingly more of a decline. The worst part, like a bunch of rookies, the car was still at the top. So we started to head back up, which was brutal. Realizing g we would never make it, we headed back down where the Buchta side came to our rescue.
The second part of the day found Zachary..and family joining the junior rangers. He earned his first badge and stamp after first refusing to do. He really liked the sealing in part, dutifully taking his oath.
Finally we hit the Oregon trail. This is the original trail. Today, you can still see the wagon ruts, while covered by vegetation, they are there. Pretty amazing to think of the journey these pioneers undertook. Extreme dedication to pave the way
for a better future for themselves.
So glad we are getting to experience everything as a family. Tonight, we hit a sizzling steakhouse. Watch out Scott’s Bluff, the clan is soon taking over the local steakhouse.
