This last weekend, we headed down to the Shore for a quick break. Zachary and I headed down on Friday night by ourselves after his ball game. We had a fun time, first navigating new roads and then making a pit stop at McDonald’s. After carrying up a mountain full of stuff, we settled in for the night. I really cherish these mom and son moments. It’s when he opens up and shares his thoughts. What I’m noticing is that he loves to ask about my childhood, often asking about favorite moments. By telling these stories, I hope he gets something that he can cherish for a life time….by the way, he particularly likes stories involving Uncle Michael because those tend to be funny….like the time he got stuck in very deep mud and somehow mommy got in trouble for laughing. In my defense, it was really funny watching my dad drudge in after him, Michael losing his brand new shoes and completely covered in mud, all while crying because he thought it was quick sand. I won’t mention who put that idea in his head suffice to say big sister’s are shrewdly smart on when to take advantage of a ripe situation.
Daddy joined us on Saturday. As one would suspect, his first call of duty was heading to Manco’s for pizza. The man is obsessed with this place. Between the two of them, they gobbled down a large pizza, in record time. It’s as if they hadn’t eaten for days. We also made time for the beach. It was a hot one, close to 90, and boy was the sand hot. That didn’t deter the game from wanting to play Booci with his dad. I really can’t believe it, but somehow daddy is really good at this game…like scary good. I wonder if those older gentleman league’s would let him play. He could be their ringer.
We arrived home to a special visitor. It seems that a mouse was having quite the party when we were gone. And the little stinker had a hankering for mommy’s Nutter Butters…go figure. Brand new, family pack, down the drain. An hour of cleaning out the pantry and laying down traps led to the little stinker being caught the next day. I really have to give that mouse some credit. It took real courage and skill to avoid 4 sleeping dogs. I mean, really, could these dogs be worse at catching things.
Speaking of catching. The puppies are back to normal after their snip snip surgeries. In breaking news, JuJu now likes to pee, while balancing himself on three legs, with that back leg extra high in the air. It really is a marvel engineering feat. He really has been perfecting it….that is, until he say a white butterfly go cruising by his head. Talk about peaking interest. I just hope he didn’t pee on himself with the melee that ensued.
