Last week, I wrote about Mother’s Day. I just wanted to add a quick follow up. Zachary was super excited to show me the gift that he made. To be honest, I wasn’t expecting much, but when I saw it. It blew me a way. He took the time to understand what mommy loves. Her flowers. Super cute.
He followed that up with his second home run of the season. It couldn’t have come at a better time. He was struggling a bit at the plate. Turns out, that his bat was broken and the pop was no longer there. On his second at bat, he grabbed his buddies and on a 3-2 pitch, smashed one over the center field fence. Pretty cool stuff for mother’s day.
Pitching continues to be a work in progress. For several weeks, his local coaches were concerned about how far his stride was going, and that was causing him to collapse on the front side. It is true, that he hasn’t been straightening his front leg….which is weird, because at home he can do it. Tom’s NPA guys think it’s more mental and that he just needs to relax and pitch. After another rough outing last Saturday, we submitted another video for Tom. First words out of his mouth, “boring”. When we brought up the front leg, he didn’t think it was a big deal. He actually reference Tom Seaver. And further pointed, that his leg actually isn’t collapsing. The angle of the leg never changed so that means the energy transferred to his upper body. So, we go back to the mental side and keep plugging away. It will come eventually. We keep telling him the harder the road, the greater the reward. I have no doubts he’ll get there.
And then there is Cheech and Chong. We had a rather scary moment last Friday. JuJu went out with Mike while he was cooking hamburgers. Mike came running back in and yelled where is JuJu. He was no where to be seen. We ran around the house, screaming his name, to no avail. The worst part, soccer had just ended so there were a ton of cars around. Zachary and I sprinted toward the park but he was no where to be seen. We ran back to the house, still no JuJu. It was at this point that the realization that JuJu may be gone hit hard. Zachary was in full blown crisis mode, heavily sobbing. I ran into the house to make sure he didn’t sneak inside. Still no JuJu. As I was going to head back to the park, I saw a black body streak inside the neighbors fence. The big boy had wiggled his way through the fence into their yard. I almost collapsed. I’ve never been so happy to see him. Thankfully, we didn’t lose two dogs in a matter of 6 months. That would have been devastating. So, the one ball wonder continues to be in the family….and with a closer eye on him when he’s outside.
