Week in Rewind May 7

We had ourselves a week and I’m not even talking about May Day and Cinco De Mayo.

Last weekend, we played at our local little league fields. Zachary had a full cheering section, because his grandparents came. On Saturday, they won both games. Sunday, we played the team that we beat the weekend before. Unfortunately, we lost in the final to them. Zachary had a little bit of an off weekend with the hitting. He kept hitting right at people. But in the final, his last at bat, he smacked a ball right up the middle for a base hit. I was relieved because it came at a crucial time. 9th inning, down by 4, with two outs. I didn’t want him to be the last out. The boy has nerves of steal. Came up to the plate and crushed one.

During the game, a proverbial question was raised. How many dust storms does it take to move people with great seats from behind the plate? And by people, I’m talking about certain related knuckleheads to Zachary… who will not be named. Sunday was a super windy day and as luck would have it the field was super dry. The perfect recipe for dust storms….as in every time a kid came to bat. The answer, at least 4 innings. Daddy was the first to exit for the stands. Quickly followed by the rest of us. I’m pretty sure we looked like pig pen, leaving a dust trail behind us. That didn’t stop the knuckleheads from eating at the local diner after the game. Do you think the waitress noticed my now tan colored white shirt, frayed air, and grimy smile?

Luckily, we do clean up rather nicely. Just in time because Zachary had his first band concert on Wednesday night. It’s been a real build up to this day. For a month, they have been practicing outdoors because of COVID. And the boy has been practicing at home with us. At this point, I’m pretty sure that I could have been a stand in for at least one of the songs, not even needing to read the music. Zachary and his 5th Grade Band did a great job. And we had 2 sets of grandparents who got to listen. Live music, a rainbow, family, ice cream does it get any better.

Finally, I wanted to wish all of the great mom’s in our lives a Happy Mother’s Day. They truly are the backbone to any family. We are lucky to have a Grand Matriarch still with us. She’s simply an amazing woman. There is Mike’s mom also known as Mom Mom who is so support of us. We’ve been through a lot of fun times together including an infamous Whale Watching Boat in Maine, need I say more. My mom who I simply cherish. She gave me so many great memories and such a wonderful life. I truly am blessed. My favorite one liner, “I told you kids to behave”, said through a smiling grimacing face that still makes me laugh.

And finally, Zachary made me a mother. Truth be told, I wasn’t sure I was even qualified to be one. At times, I do fly by the seat of my pants. But somehow, we’ve made it this far. I can’t begin to describe how much I love him. We waited over a year to finally meet. When we did, our lives changed forever. I thank God every day for blessing me with chance to raise him. Above, this one of my favorite pictures. This is at Tyler Arboretum. I said picture and he jumped into my arms like he always belonged there. Motherhood in its simplest terms.
