This week, our weeping cherry tree was in full bloom. Every since we brought the boy home, there has been an annual picture with him under it. This year, we had to make one minor adjustment. Zachary is now as tall as the lower branches. So, he squatted down in his Sunday best….his baseball uniform.
Last weekend, we also played our second tournament. We were able to get the first day in, winning two games big. On Sunday, Mother Nature intervened with rain so the tournament was cancelled. Zachary had a big first game, going 3-3 and smashing a triple. On the second game, he went 1-4 with a nice hit through the short stop gap.
I love watching these kids interact between games. It’s a really cool group that is becoming a pretty darn good baseball team. They practice a lot, and it’s starting to pay dividends. Can you see who is in the midst of the tomfoolery?
In other cool news, Daddy went into the office two times this week. That meant, mommy took over the math review for his test. And lucky for mommy, he had a test on geometry. Literally something I haven’t touched since high school. So, we rolled our shirts up and got to work. I’m not really sure why, but for some reason, geometry seemed SO much easier this time, well at least what we were working on. You know triangles and quadrilaterals. I’ve got the actue, obtuse, triangle, right and equilangular down. Maybe I should build something….I’m feeling quite proud of myself. As for Zachary, he ended up with an A on the test. He was less enthused about it. And in a stroke of extreme luck, three dimensional, volume, etc are the next section. So back to daddy and his engineering background.
If you’re wondering, mommy pretty much does all other areas. He read a really cool book about John Andrea and Benedict Arnold. This week was his test and he got an A. After much complaining about quizzing him on names and places, he was more than ready. He’s been doing really well with the remote learning. Zachary is a bit of self starter. For the most part, he does his work on his own. Last semester, he finished with all As. Yet another blessing, in this otherwise challenging year.
Finally, Zachary has been tearing up in his Fantasy Baseball league, thanks to mommy. As a kid, my brother and I knew pretty much all of the players because we traded cards. I’m actually liking Fantasy because it forces us to learn names. He’s got an amazing pitching rotation. You know the kid who pitched the first no hitter? Yes that was Zachary’s guy and he gave him almost 40 points. We also drafted many players that can be used at different positions. In a gem move this week, mommy helped him pick up a rising Padre star, who plays every position in the infield and centerfield The day we added him, he promptly gave Zach 11 points. I keep telling the boy it’s early in the season, but he did have fun smash-talking his buddy when he wanted our best shortstop in a trade. It seems that he wasn’t willing to unload Trevor Bauer for Bo Bichette…and no, he will never get rid of Bo because we like to call him Bo Bitcheee.
