Week in Rewind

This week as we entered into Holy Week. We’re reminded to be thankful for all of our blessings.

Opening week of MLB. Thank goodness, life is getting a little bit more back to normal with fans in the stadium. The boy actually is doing his first fantasy baseball league. He ended up with Jacob DeGroum and Tyler Glasnow as his main pitchers…and Bellinger, Abrue, Yellen and Martinez as his sluggers. Right now, he’s winning 88-74, not too shabby.

Last weekend, daddy and the boy headed to Ocean City, Maryland for the Fruitland Tournament. To say it was a “fruitful” experience would be an understatement. The boy burst into the scene, starting off with a double against the opposing team’s best pitcher. His best hit a 2 run homer that he crushed. He ended the day with 2 doubles, a triple and home run. To say we were excited would be an understatement. The boy had himself a day.

On Tuesday, we once again were selected to have Tom review Zachary’s pitching mechanics. This time, was a little embarrassing. The boy didn’t want to submit a video and then went to practice. Half way through the call, Jordan asked it there was video of Zach. Unfortunately, for mommy the only recent video we had was from our messy garage. Tom got a laugh out of it and said “oh there he is”. He continued to rave about his energy angle, but gave him more things to work on, mainly keeping his head back and not leading with it and straightening the front leg….but he did say his front glove, was MLB level…which made me very happy because we worked ALL WEEK ON IT and it was not easy to correct. So, the work continues. Tom said I hate to be harsh but we want to make him perfect.

Speaking of pitching, he finally got in from his own coaches this week during practice. And Zachary was confronted with changes that they wanted him to make. Tom had mentioned that one way to deal with it was to say “yes coach, and then keep doing what you were doing”. That didn’t work for Z, the coaches moved him to the opposite side of the rubber, after he thrown mainly strikes”—and then threw balls. So the new strategy becomes to simply tell him why you are doing that movement..and not change.

This week also brought April Fool’s Day. Mommy got him good by telling him the neighbor’s house was on fire. Z came running to the door. The boy promptly did his own trick with the toliet. While cute, we were on alert so he really didn’t get us….but he did get Grandma by telling her that JuJu brought a snake into the house. She fell for it, hook line and sinker.

Finally, Easter is upon us. While still a little different for us because of the pandemic, we still will be celebrating. Time of rebirth and gratitude. Wishing everyone a happy holiday.
