Another fast week. With spring on the horizon, the pace of life is ticking upward.
On Monday, we remembered Uncle Larry. Hard to believe but it’s been four years since his passing. Zachary had a rocky beginning upon meeting him. He had never seen a person in a wheelchair. By the end of that first visit, Zachary was pushing him everywhere. Larry had that ability to make people comfortable with his situation. To be honest, as a kid, I really never thought about the fact that he couldn’t walk. Why? Because he was always there for every big event in my life. And he never complained about what polio had done to him. He truly is one of the most remarkable people that I have known. I am also forever grateful that he sends me hearts to remind me that he is up above watching over us. This particular one was found while Zachary and I were running hill repeats at the top of the hill. Zachary looked down and it was right next to his foot.
Tuesday brought a rockier day. Zachary looks great indoors when doing his pitching mechanics. As soon as the mound comes out, he regresses. The big old head of his tends to sway to the left, causing all of the mechanics to get out of whack. We know it’s a strength issue, but there are certain days when that shows up more. The good news, we now know the issue and it gives him something to work on. As Tom House likes to say “trust the process”.
On Wednesday it was Uncle Dick’s birthday. We couldn’t love him more. He really is a person of compassion and love. He’s always the first with a quick laugh and would give you the shirt off his back. We’re extremely lucky to have him in our lives. Zachary shares a special relationship with him. When he was younger, Z liked to say “where is Uncle Dicky”. It always makes me smile. I’m so happy that we’ve gotten to share so many great memories with him.
Thursday, brought the rain, as in all day. True to form, the big boy started an interest in a new bad habit, the trash can. He likes to “sneak” off after dinner and check out the latest cuisine. Luckily for us, he’s pretty noisy so we hear him. Not so lucky for him, that now means a quick squirt of vinegar as a deterrent.
Friday brought out the little “red rocket”. While Zachary and JuJu were playing around, Z said JuJu’s little thingy is really red. A quick search of the Cavalier site quickly confirmed what we suspected…the rocket man has arrived. It seems that running around and excitement can cause it. Touche. This was quickly followed by a call to the vet to schedule his procedure. As for me, I really can’t get the Rocket Man lyrics out of my mind. On no no no, I’m a rocket man.
