Over the holiday, we’ve been watching this Netflix thriller. I wasn’t sure the boy would be into it, but I was wrong. It really peaked his interest in learning chess.
We ventured down to the basement and found daddy’s long lost set. With that, the boy has wanted to play non-stop. And while just a beginner, he seems to be picking it up rather quickly….or as I like to say, much quicker than his mommy. I had a feeling he would be good at it. He’s really good at math, but more importantly, he’s very good at coming up with multiple solutions to math problems.
Learning chess today is much easier than in the past. Apps make it easier to learn the basics and strategies. And then there is daddy who knows how to play. He relishes in beating both of us….but what he doesn’t know….with everyone of his wins, the boy takes it in and looks to improve. Famous quote. “Move in silence, only speak when it’s time to say checkmate”…..That chess clock is ticking for daddy.
For now, the chess set sits on our kitchen table. The boy constantly looking to play. I really find it a nice change of pace.
