Last weekend, I had emailed our breeder to let her know that Trojan had died at 15. She responded with condolences and then offered that pups were available that within the Star lineage. Star was Trojan’s mom. She is the current pups grandmother. So naturally, mommy’s interest were peaked. As we loaded into the car to make the hour drive, I remember saying we’ll go look and if we see one we like, then maybe we get one. Okay who was I fooling. These dogs know how to pillar right into your every being. They are all consuming. And those deep dark eyes. Can you blame us?
We were looking for a Blenheim to replace our Trojan. The big issue, is that Trojan was a natural beauty. Perfect marks, perfect color. The current pups were a lot different. She had two litters available, only one from Star. The younger Blenheim was really white all over. The older Blenheim, within the Star lineage, has a lot of the rich chestnut red, but her face is not a typical Blenheim. She’s missing a lot of white and is a little off balanced with her coloring.
Zachary was immediately drawn to the more colorful dog. He kept saying this is the one we should get. Mike was okay with either. Mommy was so torn. A link to Trojan with a cost, not a perfect Blenheim, but she had a sweet temperament and more importantly, she made direct eye contact, as in constantly. So, this little girl stole our hearts and won the day. Right now, we’re liking the name Reecie or Reece, because of those milky colors.
But alas, our day was not over. From the moment, we arrived one pup repeatedly tried to steal the day. Born on September 1, this little boy is a thumper and was the only one in the litter who attempted to make his way out of the bedding. Unfortunately for him, he’s still a little too small to make his escape, but that didn’t keep him from trying. And when you held him, he made direct contact, looking deep into you as if trying to read your soul. His daddy, Boo, was in the room with us. Cheryl described him as super social and special. His mommy is an award winning Cavalier from London. You can tell, the fur is silky smooth and the show dog demeanor is there. As we were torn between which Blenheim to take, there was a pull to this dog.
That’s when we put Reecie down and JuJu Bear promptly gave her a kiss and cuddled with her. I mean, really how low can this dog go. Heart strings.
And there you have it, that’s how we ended up with two new pups. We knew we would be back in a year when Mattie passes away. Cheryl also mentioned that she is thinking of moving and didn’t know if would continue to breed. Somehow we rationalized it would also be easier to potty train just once. Then there was the it factor. JuJu Bear (named after JuJu Smith-Schuster) has plenty of it.
November 10 looks to be a good day for us. That’s the day, we are supposed to bring them home. We’ll get to hear the pitter patter of little pups running around chasing each other….while the two older, wonder what the heck just arrived in our lives. Welcome to the family, Reecie and JuJu Bear.
