Long Ball

It’s been a weird baseball season. For one, it started late due to Covid 19. In fact, we were little surprised there would be a season at all. But alas, baseball prevailed.

For Zachary, it’s been a new team and a new beginning. He started the season in the one spot hitting, but after a few games, they moved him to the three spot, a power spot. Who knew the boy could hit with power. We always assumed he was a contact hitter. But with better coaching, he started hot with multiple games of double and triples. Just as it looked like he would keep rolling, he hit a major skid in a local tournament. There was much pouting and crying, and to be honest, whoas me. As anyone that has been in a hitting slump knows, attitude matters. The more you get in your head, the worse it gets. And we talked at long lengths about it.

So, when a new week of baseball began. We were hoping for a new attitude. Sure enough, the old ball coach came to his rescue, telling him to watch his arm box and pull the lawn mower back.

And that was all it took, the boy took it yard on the first pitch. His first out of the park home run, really his only home run EVER. I knew it had it chance, as it was hit on a dart and was rising over short. To say, the boy was happy would be an understatement. He continued hot, with a double done the first base line and a single up the middle. The boy had himself a hitting day.

The best part was watching daddy mill around knee high weeds to find the ball. Seven balls later, and the coach identifying his ball, we could finally take his victory picture.
