It’s the Great Waterfall, Charlie Brown

Last weekend, we finally had a baseball free weekend. And mommy wanted to get out in nature and see beautiful waterworks. So after much fretting, we opted for the “Best Waterfall in NJ”. That should have our first clue.

After an hour and half of driving, we found ourselves up by NYC. Mommy was none to happy about driving in that crazy traffic. We made it and luckily had front row parking.

As we turned the corner, we saw what can only be described as a man-made dam waterfall. Zachary, of course, kept saying this has to be it. But mommy, was convinced the “Best Waterfall in New Jersey” surely had to be more. Am I right! So, we continued to walk, past the “gently streaming” waterfall and turned onto a stone road. Yes, we must be headed on the right path. As we turned the corner and saw a police car parked at a closing exit, it came to light that the “dam made” waterfall was indeed the “Best Waterfall in NJ”.

Clearly, we needed to lower our expectation with NJ waterfalls.

So, here we were after experiencing the “Best Waterfall in NJ” with little to do and it was only noon time. Clearly, not the hiking adventure that I had envisioned.

So, we opted to head to Washington Crossing on a new adventure. Much like the “Best Waterfall in NJ” it became an adventure indeed.

First, shot gun should really telling you the parking is on the left, before you pass it. As I blew past it and saw the tiny bridge in front of me, I’ll say it….mommy froze. Dear goodness, in front of me stood the most narrow bridge I have ever seen in my lifetime, with really big trucks and cars coming across it….towards us. And with a car behind me, blaring his horn I might add, I was left with no option but to cross. Slowly I maneuvered my way on to it, praying Hail Mary’s (and I’m not Catholic). Is this the way we die, pushed off a too narrow bridge at Washington’s Crossing? But as they say, when life gives you lemons, you make lemonade. And somehow, mommy made lemonade that day and got us safely across the bridge to the PA side. Much like George Washington, I might add….although technically he came from the PA side to the NJ side, but you get the point.

We spent the next hour at Washington Crossing. What those men accomplished is nothing short of a miracle. Their fortitude is what makes this country great. I really wish we could get back to this with modern day politics, but that’s another conversation. I am, however, really glad we made this stop for Zachary. It’s one thing to read about it, but to see it in real life made the story come to life.

So that was our big weekend without baseball. And no, I did not cross that crazy bridge to get home. We went up the PA side to access the highway. You don’t play with fire twice in one day!
