Baseball is officially back. We had our first game last Wednesday. Thanks for the grandparents for coming to cheer him on in warm weather.
Zachary started at shortstop, played a little second base and right field too. This is the one thing that we love about his new team. He gets the chance to play different positions. As the coach’s dad said, that boy is a natural middle fielder.
He also pitched the last inning. 1 walk. 1 strike out. two hits that resulted in outs. It’s good to see him starting to relax more on the mound. Hopefully that continues because his team needs him to be one of their pitchers.
At the bat, Zachary was 2-4. He had a full swing bunt in which somehow he made it to first. His other hit was a zinger up the middle. With one walk, he was on base, 3 out of 5 times. Not bad. Zachary continues to be their lead off hitter. He loves being in that position. I told him on the way home, gamers love that challenge to set the tone of the game. That moment doesn’t seem to be too big for him.
The change of teams has really been a plus for him. Coaching matters and Zachary is finally get well coached. You can see that he is building a team. With a 23-1 win, the team is headed in the right direction. I’m sure there will be better teams and bigger challenges, but win or lose, these kids are growing. I say that, after a 2 1/2 hour practice last night. This coach doesn’t mess around and he loves him some Zachary.
