Last week, we officially kicked off basketball. And somehow, mommy got nabbed to be the head coach….or as the boy says, “mom, you’ll be a great coach, tough but fair”.
The first week of practice went fairly well. Six really good players and one that had never played, but is athletic. I can work with that, I thought. With the start of the second week of practice, I got an email from the head of our league. We’re giving you another player since you only have seven kids. I’m sorry to do that to you. Hmm, interesting choice of words, but no problem.
With that the new kid joined our team. And the chaos soon ensued. The kid has never played, doesn’t listen and really can’t run plays after we said the same thing to him ten times. Oh boy. Or as the boy said after practice, “mom, we’re in trouble. He’s a turnover machine”. Good point buddy. So my coaching career just got more challenging, to say the least.
As we head into tomorrow’s practice, I’m determined to make it work. At the very least, we’ll make it fun..but the goal is to improve. So I’m rolling up those sleeves and getting ready to teach….is 9:30 am to early for Vodka on the Rocks.
It makes you realize just how lucky you are to have this kid, shooting a good basketball form at 6
