Last night, we ventured out to an away baseball game in (gulph) 40 degree temperatures.  The boy was bundled up pretty well with layers, but it was cold.

We jumped out to a big lead 12-4. When they brought Zachary in for the 5th inning.  It was a rough outing for the boy, multiple walks and a big triple…but when it counted he struck out the the last kid to close the inning.   They didn’t pitch him for the 6th and we quickly watched our lead evaporate.  And we ended the night with a loss to the Rams.  Boo…and cold

Big shout out to Pop Pop for coming out to watch.  A long drive on a cold night, but Z loved having you there.  (He told me he saw you when going up to bat).    He’s a lucky boy to have such awesome grandparents rooting him on, some live..others in Ohio waiting to hear how he did.  Pretty special.

As we drove home in our highly heated car, I listened to a boy who has grown considerably, actively involved in talking about the game and his friends. “Did you hear Coach Kevin say blow into your hands and I did it with the ball in my hand.  That was funny.”

And with one glance in the rear view mirror, I saw a baseball player, a kid that has come along way since tee ball.   Even with a loss, the boy is learning and growing, surrounded by family and friends.  I love what sports teaches kids.  Teachable moments, such as bounce back.  We’ll be ready for you Rams with the next game…and it better not be 40 degrees!
