GRIT

The last couple of weeks, Zachary has been gearing up for his state karate championship.   There’s been extra lessons with Master Lindsay, working outdoors in the cold, and fine tuning little movements.   The boy was ready.  And we let him know, we didn’t care about any trophies, but rather that he gave his best

On Saturday, first up was his bow.  It came down to a face off for 3rd place and the boy worked it. Luckily, it was enough.

And then it was on to Forms, by far his best area.  The stress level was elevated by a little ninja, who is seriously intense.   Mommy’s advice, match his intensity, but do it more preciously.   Ironically, the little ninja got 3rd place and was a non factor

But, there was another face off for Zachary.   He got the first call and went up and owned his business.

Mommy watched the first judge point to Zachary, the second to his competitor…and for a few seconds, my heart jumped, but the third judge pointed to him and the victory was his and he became a super happy kid as the stress of the moment waned.   Mommy, “I did it”.  Yes you did buddy.

It was a long day, but I love these life lessons.  GRIT, the boy has the right combination of talent and hard work.  Heart, when the chips are on the line, the boy excels. Facing fears, he faced his main competitor head on and didn’t blink  Love, he couldn’t wait to celebrate with family and friends  This was a memory filled day, choked full of important life lessons…and we couldn’t be more proud.
